[The Spring Standards] Bell and Whistles & Queen of the Lot

thesixtyone.com에서 이런저런 노래를 듣던 중 'Bell and Whistles'라는 노래를 듣고 완전 꽂힌 결과, 이 노래를 부른 밴드인 'The Spring Standards'의 <Would Things Be Different>를 몇 시간째 무한반복 중. 스스로의 짧은 영어-_-에 괴로워하면서 열심히 검색하여 다음과 같은 사실을 알아내었다. 

James Cleare, Heather Robb, James Smith로 이루어진 3인조 밴드.

델라웨어에서 태어나 자랐고, 지금은 브루클린에 있음. 16세부터 2년간 델라웨어, 펜실베니아에서 함께 공연함.

비틀즈, 제임스 테일러, 크로스비와 스틸즈 등의 음악을 들으며 자랐고 거기서 많은 영향을 받았음.

오래된 친구 사이로 고등학교 졸업 후 각자의 길을 가다가 몇 해가 지난 후 뉴욕에서 만나 다시 음악을 하게 됨.

오랫동안 'vocal harmony'에 대한 열정을 가지고 함께 음악을 만들며 작업해 왔음.

셋 다 모두 노래를 부르고 곡을 직접 만들며 여러 악기를 연주할 수 있음.

두 James는 어쿠스틱 기타와 베이스 기타, 드럼을 연주하며 James S.는 하모니카와 트럼펫도 연주함.

Heather는 키보드와 종금(글로켄슈필), 멜로디카와 드럼을 연주함.

2008년 7월에 첫 EP 'No One Will Know'를 발매했고, Kieran Kelly of The Buddy Project에 참여함.

2010년 4월 13일에는 첫 앨범 'Would Things Be Different'를 발표함.
2011년에 곧 새 EP가 나올 예정!

페이스북의 밴드소개 페이지(www.facebook.com/pages/The-Spring-Standards/22313881085)를 보니, 전형적이고 영화에서나 볼 법한 쉽고 가벼운 로맨스를 노래하지 '않고' Life's True and Joys에 대해 노래한다는 말이 있던데. 그들의 음악과 잘 어울린다는 느낌이었다. 누구나 할 수 있는 말을 굳이 하고 있다는 게 맘에 든다. 그만큼 진지하고 순수하다는 거 아닐까. 어쨌든간 맘에 든다. 거슬리는 곡이 없네. 셋 다 노래를 하는데 두 제임스와 헤더의 목소리가 모두 괜찮다. 지금 날씨와도 잘 어울린다.

CD 갖고 싶은데 향에도 퍼플에도 없는 걸 보니 아직 CD는 국내에 안 들어온 것 같아 좀 슬프다. 혹시나 하는 마음으로 음원사이트까지 검색해 보았으나 역시 없고. 뭐 그럴 줄 알긴 했지만 아쉽다. 하지만 알게 되어서 진심으로 기쁘다. 몰랐더라면 훨씬 더 아쉬울 뻔 했어. 올해 봄은 이걸로 살아야겠다. 끄악.
